Liefie-Collection is created by fashion designers Marite Crous and Jolette le Roux.
Their unique mix of traditional and vintage fabric makes for a quirky, yet extremely wearable range. The clothes have strong references to South African culture of the past and present, and they are fond of unusual fabric combinations such as crimplene and shweshwe, corduroy, hand-knitted wool items, natural cotton, denim, tulle and lace.
“Liefie” is an Afrikaans word that can be translated as “sweetheart”, “darling”, or “love”. Clothes from the Liefie-collection have a sweet look and vintage feel, but with a bit of a difference that ensures that the items are both timeless and up-to-date with current fashion trends.
Liefie-Collection is based in Cape Town, South Africa, where the clothes and other fashion items are made in collaboration with local CMT’s as well as embroidery, crochet and knit crafters.
Skirts and dresses have interesting linings, often in shweshwe. Shweshwe is a natural cotton fabric printed with traditional designs, also favoured for the traditional wear of certain indigenous South African tribes. We pride ourselves in utilising a combination of quality and attention to detail to create a timeless yet original South African product for the discerning female.
Liefie hopes to inspire its wearer, each product made with love, consciousness and a bit of nostalgia gathered from various experiences and travels.
The collection is currently available at MeMeMe(Cape Town), Dot (Stellenbosch), Moooi(Vredenburg) and every first weekend of the month at The Hearthfair(Stellenbosch).
